Ways to Get Involved in Adult Literacy in New Mexico
Become a tutor, board member, or other volunteer for a local program
Volunteers are the heart of adult literacy programs. You can make a real difference in students' lives when you help directly or indirectly to support their literacy skills. Each program is different; find your local program below for more information.
Advocate for adult literacy in the state
There are many ways to advocate for adult literacy, including writing and making phone calls to legislators, writing letters to the editor, joining an organization, signing petitions, and even simply talking to those you know about adult literacy. Visit NMAEA (New Mexico Adult Education Association) to learn more and find fact sheets and templates to support your efforts.
Donate to a local program
Literacy programs are typically nonprofits run by very small staff with volunteers as the primary educators. Donations are always needed and gratefully accepted. Click below to find your local program to support the valuable work they do in our state and communities.
